119-SONG COLLECTION BY VERNON HOWL (THE 28th PIZZA PUPPIES ALBUM)

Over the 24 hours of Tuesday, September 8th, 2009, in and around Portland, Oregon, in the Pacific Time Zone (UTC-8), the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office arrested 119 individuals for an assortment of crimes and misdemeanors. They ranged in age from 18 to 63, these people. Their average age was 34 years old. Two of them happened to be 'celebrating' birthdays. And they were overwhelmingly male: 92 to 27 so. The following document––one long poem set to pop music over 119 micro-songs inside 15 suites––is meant to either humanize or dehumanize (further) the individuals in question. originally, the real names of these "perps" were used in connection with this record. we as organization regret that decision and have decided to only use their initials in all future publications, materials and postings.

For whatever reason, i only made liner notes for slightly more than half of the album. so enjoy the above "book" featuring lyrics and 'found footage avatars' (i googled the names of the arrestees and used the first result, usually via facebook; the majority, if not the entirety, of these results were not the actual human-begin in question).

of all the things i made, this is right at the top in terms of being the most ambitious. having experimented with micro-songwriting for years, this felt like a natural conclusion . . . until, that is, the psycho-bitch "El Lee" tried to one-up me with the next entry in the discog . . .
