The Cult of Christmas Lights in Princeton New Jersey

I lived in Princeton, NJ for a few years. There is a weird (unspoken?) tradition of folks leaving their xmas lights up way, way into the new year. Honestly, some people will leave their outside xmas lights on until Easter. I don't know if this 'tradition' has been noted anywhere; I attempted to google, however briefly, and came up empty. I don't hate it this, mind you. The mind goes to a happy place, even unconsciously, in the presence of xmas lights, even jogging in the cold, as I was last evening. I just want some confirmation that this is indeed 'a thing'––please help.

I'm going to run so fast into the night tonight; if I run by a cemetery, I may unearth some of your relatives' ghosts and it will not be any fault of my own but an energy I have unleashed deep inside my core, of which I have little control.

I need to push my body to the limits of abstraction

Hi. If you're like me, you're constantly wondering what is the purpose of human existence. This is why I choose to run marathons and this is why I choose to become the world's most prolific songwriter and one of its most prolific art-makers (in general, ad nausem, semper fi, forever and forever amen). One can explore in these seemingly fruitless excursions into mental/physical exhaustion something akin to a drug, I guess. Pushing your body towards the edge of [death?] leads to an abstraction, an abstraction of self and possibly even the 'idea' of human beings. If we are able to level consciousness through narcotics and there is no other way to do this, then that doesn't say much about the nature of existence. So begins my new journey tonight: training for my second marathon on May 7th in Cincinnati, Ohio. I hope to run at least four more marathons after this (Boston, NYC, [another random, potentially west coast American city] & [international city]), and I'd like to get into mega-marathon running, if not on an organized level, then on a solely individual level. I'd love to run from Philadelphia to Raleigh, for example, to visit family one day.

Using a new word counter app. I like to see my progress in real time. The only thing I care about is that word count. This is from a collection of ultra-flash fiction (each 'story' is ~50 words or less) called Six Six Six, because there will be 666 total stories when I'm done.

I googled the word "Scruples" and it turns out there is a strip club in Bucks County PA named Scruples lol. Here is their blogspot blog lol (free lunch of Fridays FTW, amirite?). The definition of a "skro͞op" (slang for scruple) is "a feeling of doubt or hesitation with regard to the morality or propriety of a course of action" so I guess that is an OK name for a strip club. IDK. Nothing matters. My dog is gambling on sports now.

The iPhone autofill emoji when you type "good" is, for me, 👌. This is like supposed to be the *magnifique* hand gesture I guess? Whatever. The point is I've adopted an unofficial policy of always adding the autofill emojis no matter what. But, for the record, in this case, the 👌emoji is not a gesture I would ever use in real life. When I was little my mother gave me a fork. It was an antique fork. She told me to only eat pork with this fork. But I'm a vegetarian. So I gave the fork to this friend of mine who I knew loved to eat bacon. This friend put bacon on everything, including non-food things like the dashboard of her car and bacon bits sprinkled onto wildflowers that grew on the fence in her backyard. She loved the smell of bacon and it wanted to smell it as often as possible. I told this friend that she can only use this fork to eat pork. And the friend thanked me very much. She said thank you for this pork fork, friend. I still think about this friend and wonder if she’s using the fork to eat pork. Who knows.

For the majority of the last 100 days of my life I have spent my lunches with Mark Baumer.

During the work week especially, religiously, I would queue up his blog and his vlog and I would eat my lunch as I read about his journey and watched his daily videos. I'm about to eat lunch now and Mark Baumer is gone. There will be no more posts, no more content. This is so sad.

I'm feeling pretty devastated right now. There was no bigger creative influence in my life than the writer and artist and poet Mark Baumer. His daily dispatches were a true highlight of my day. Mark was struck and kicked by a car walking across america raising awareness and money for climate change, and it's left me feeling insanely empty.
